WebDev The Web Development Blog

My name is Iain White this is my blog about Web Development. I am a Web Developer and a Pragmatic Programmer.

WebDev is a blog for Web Developers who are passionate about what they do.

I started this blog in the hope to help shape beter Software Developers by sharing my passion, thoughts and experiences with Development for the web.

I live in Brisbane, Australia, but I am from the UK.  This blog is based on my work experiences both in the UK and here in Australia.

Much of the blog will apply to general Software Development practices, but it will be mostly based on my experience as a PHP Developer and a JavaScript guru.

I describe myself as a Pragmatic Programmer and I often refer to the book The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master by Andrew Hunt and David Thomas.

This blog is aimed at Web professionals that are passionate about what they do and have a desire to be it to the best of there ability.

I passionately believe that a good developer is always learning and improving his skills, embracing new ways of working smarter and exploring new technologies. The aim of this
blog is to provide in some small way to help supply this knowledge.

The WebDev blog also features a code snippets library, where common JavaScript, PHP and other code will be posted.

Web Development

Web Development is a broad term and is at times confused with Web Design but should never be mistaken as such.

Web Development includes any activity related to development of a web site for the Web or an Internet. This can include eCommerce, Web Design, web content development, client-side / server-side scripting (e.g. PHP, JavaScript etc.), and web server configuration.

However, among Web Professionals, Web Development usually refers to the non-design aspects of building web sites, e.g. writing mark-up (HTML) and coding.

Web Development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based Internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.
